Meet Mountain View Acres:
A Family-Run Pasture Raised Chicken Farm in Stoney Creek Valley
Mountain View Acres is owned and operated by Steve, his wife Rebecca, and their 4 children. The farm is nestled outside the small town of Dauphin in a valley called Stoney Creek just a few minutes north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The great views of the mountains surrounding the farm and seeing the constant change of seasons on them inspired the farm name.

Farming Traditions: Getting Back to Their Roots
Steve grew up in Lancaster County surrounded by the many dairy farms of the area and helping seasonally with straw and hay and occasionally milking. He also had grandparents who farmed and raised Black Angus in the Elizabethtown area. Rebecca grew up in Dauphin and had grandparents who had a dairy herd and conventional broiler chicken operation in the Hummelstown area.

Building a Legacy: Cultivating Skills and Values Through Farming
Shortly after marrying and starting their family, Steve and Rebecca had the idea of starting a farm but just didn’t know how or where to “jump in.” They wanted a farm so they could work side by side with their children as they grew up and so they could learn real skills and a good work ethic.
Expanding the Farm: Introducing Meat Chickens for Quality Protein
After years of gardening, raising a few pigs, and laying hens they decided to add meat chickens in 2021. The idea was to start providing high quality protein and have a better connection to the meat they put on the family table every night.
Pasture-Farming
He longed for the idea of keeping animals out on grass and allowing the animals to be in a more natural environment. With inspiration from the likes of Joel Salatin they started a regenerative or pasture-based chicken and egg farm.
What does regenerative farming mean?
Keeping chickens on the move, allowing chickens to roam for bugs and grass, take dirt baths.
Not keeping the animals confined in giant industrial houses.
Not using hormones or other drugs.
Using fresh non-GMO, organic grains from Lancaster County.
This also provides a net positive on the environment.
Restoring tired and worn-out fields with the natural fertility that comes from animal impact.
What does all of this mean for you?
The taste and nutrient density of the products from the farm are the very best! The same chicken and eggs that are on your table are the same that the Steve and his family enjoy every day!
